English term or phrase: a questioning world
But what about the answers that former U.S. Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton gave in 2005 in response to the 2004 tsunami tragedy. They were interviewed by Larry King, who asked them questions concerning their religious faith and how people should understand what happened in Asia in terms of the existence of a loving God. Generic statements such as “life isn’t easy” were uttered. And both presidents
said that such tragedies strengthened their “faith” (though what this “faith” entails was not defined on the program). Sadly, no real answers were provided.
These men, who at one time held the most powerful office in the world, chose not to use the Bible and its very first book to present an answer. Indeed, it is in the Bible’s first three chapters where Christians can offer ***a questioning world*** the explanation of the meaning of death and suffering — and why a loving God allows death and suffering to happen.

Una cosa es cuestionar la existencia de Dios o las razones para que "permita" esas tragedias. Y otra bien distinta preguntar si Dios existe o las razones para que "permita" cosas así.

"De hecho, es en los tres primeros capítulos de la Biblia donde los cristianos pueden ofrecer a un mundo que se pregunta/lleno de preguntas la explicación del significado de la muerte y el sufrimiento —y por qué un Dios amoroso permite que la muerte y el sufrimiento sucedan".

en B2 se traducen o se pueden traducir las frases con "cuestionar", pero según lo veo ahora en este caso el mensaje resulta más directo con "el mundo se pregunta" (es decir, se hace preguntas) más que con "que [se] cuestiona".

Y sin duda es un verbo más frecuente y corriente.
