English term

self-orientation

English to Spanish Social Sciences Economics Political economy
This comes from a text on the experience of Yugslavian worker control. The term giving me problems is Self-orientation

"Finally, when differential possession or differential development of capacities (neither of which imply antagonism in themselves) are combined with self-interest and self-orientation to produce the belief in and the desire for privileged entitlement".

I wonder if orientación hacia si mismo would work??
I am not sure how to translate self-orientation, cannot find it in any dictionary, included Proz. Thank you for any help given

I didn't grade because I found all the answers helpful in their own way and didn't want to chose any one over any other. Thank you all very much. The most useful thing about answers many times is that they stimulate the questioner to think and also expand that person's knowledge

auto orientación/orientación personal

As "self interest", "self-orientation" can be translated as: "interés personal - orientación personal", or, "auto-interés - auto-orientación."

la propia orientación

the term "auto-orientación" is also correct, but I would choose this one, especially in this case were before one can read "self-interest", which can not be translated as "auto-interés", rather as "el propio interés", so both sentences go in the same way.

individualismo

In my opinion the query term has a negative connotation (like “self-interest”, “egoísmo”). I would suggest as a posible translation “individualismo” as opposed to “team or task orientation” (= espírituo de equipo). I think the word “orientación” doesn´t suffice here to stress properly that negative connotation.

self-orientation
A psychological orientation in which an individual wishes to have direct personal rewards regardless of the effects on others working with that individual. A self-orientated person is often dominating, introspective, and socially insensitive. Highly successful athletes tend to be self-orientated while good coaches tend to be lower in self-orientation. Compare task orientation.

The values of specific interest in this research were individualism (a self-orientation with focus on the individual) and collectivism (a self-orientation with focus on relationships with others). Individuals tend to have a prevalence of one orientation over another, even while having tendencies towards both.
