Good luck to anyone who is sitting IoL Diploma in Translation exams this week. I've opened this topic up so that anyone who is worried or anxious can share their feelings with others who might be in the same boat.

I'm not exactly looking forward to Thursday... Are you sitting the exam this year as well or speaking from past experience? Any last-minute tips, nerve-calming strategies, useful recommendations, magic potions...?

I took a complete break for the final week before the exam - no revision, no translation work, no other work. I think last minute cramming will only make you nervous on the day. It worked for me at least because I passed.

I did my exams today and it was not as bad as I thought it would be. I've just got home and I am exhausted after 7 hours of writing but it does fly by. The best advice I can give is to leave as much time as you can to check over your work at the end because the small changes really do make a difference. Take you time reading the source text and make notes while you read if anything occurs to you. Eat well and drink plenty of water. Make sure you are comfortable and relaxed as possible in the exam room.

I did Literature and Social Science. Social Science was the most difficult of all !

after 7 months waiting yesterday the day has arrived. It was an interesting experience and the papers did not look extremely complicated, although there were a couple of sentences that were a bit ambiguous.
I guess now I will just have to sit and wait for the next however weeks it will take them to give me the results.

I struggled with the Social Science option (ASBO). Did anyone else find it too long & complicated for two hours? I hardly managed to finish it on time...

I took the French to English on Tuesday, and did the business and law options. I found the general translation text really good, and the other two were more difficult, but I left feeling confident. I wasn't pressed for time and checked my translations carefully. Luckily, I was the only one sitting the exam (not popular combination in Greece...), and used a computer, which I found very helpful.
I was wondering how anyone else who took the same paper found the texts?
