Hello!

I have been working for several years with
Wordfast 3.51x and now will start working with Trados Freelance 6.5. I have a lot of TMs, and of course don't want to loose them. I've tried importing over and over again, but Trados doesn't recognize it, it seems, since it doesn't import anything!
There must be a way to import them? Please tell me there is!

Note: I did already try importing the TMs in .tmx format, but it just doesn't work!

Export your TMs in the TMX format from the Wordfast main panel and import them in Workbench.

Best,
Esther

I did that already Nov 11, 2004

Dear Esther,

I did already try importing the TMs in .tmx format, but it just doesn't work! I can follow all steps, but then it says "TUs imported: 0".

Thanks for your help!

For Trados 6.x, it's more complicated. Nov 11, 2004

From Trados 6.0 the procedure became more complicated since Trados made changes to its TM codes. Set out below is the procedure I copied for you from wordfast.net/knowledge.

Good Luck

To use a Wordfast TM with TWB (Trados Translator’s Workench):

1. In Wordfast, click the Export button to create a TMX export of your current TM.
2. In TWB, create a new TM, with the correct languages.

3. Use TWB’s File/Import menu to import the TMX file into the newly created
TM (see note 2 below).

Note: When importing a Wordfast-generated TMX TM into a TWB TM, the
usual reason for failure on the TWB side is that the ISO language codes in the
Wordfast TMX file do not fit the ISO TMX language codes for the particular
Trados version you use (there were changes between Trados 2, 3, and 5 in this
respect, due to ISO standard changes. For instance, the code for Swedish changed
from SV-01 to SV-SE, etc). To know exactly which ISO language codes your version
of Trados expects, generate a small TMX export from a Trados-exported TM
created with the intended language codes, open this TMX export with Ms-Word,
then look at language codes. If language codes differ from the codes used in the
Wordfast TMX export, they can easily be search-replaced in Ms-Word (for example,
search for "SV-01", replace with "SV-SV", with quotes, using the "Match case"
option in Ms-Word’s search-replace options). Save as Unicode Text on exit.

I should have added.... Nov 11, 2004

If you are not succesful in importing the TM itself, you can always 1) create a Trados TM, 2) take the old WF uncleaned, dual-language document and 3) clean it up making sure that "Update TM" is toggled on the clean up dialogue window. That will insert the translation into the new Trados TM. More long winded but it does work.

No way: there are over a hundred files from these past years!
I'll try the other way.

You were truly inspired: one of the languages is indeed Swedish!! I'll try it.
Thanks a lot!!
