Hi, I am just getting started as a translator in the U.S. Since I can't afford to buy expensive software right now, is there anything on the market that is priced reasonably, if not inexpensive? Thanks !

You might want to try out MemoQ
May 11, 2007
presented on Budapest Conference. Its TM is Trados compatible (the same format when exported).
I haven't tried it out myself yet (though I saw presentation and demo on Conference and liked the interface very much), but few of our translators have and the feedback is the very best.
(AFAIK, demo version never expires, limitation is that it is not upgradeable).

Wordfast, Metatexis

Both are free with certain restrictions, and the license is only less than 200 Euro. No problem, I have Trados and SDLX, but use Wordfast most of the time. Cheers Heinrich

Truly "free" - not a demo version, not a "lite" version, no crippled functionality, no limitation on how long you can use it. As of this morning, used by 897 ProZ members.
