| Description | TAALS is a professional association that represents language specialists working at the international level, either at conferences or in permanent organizations, and determines their qualifications and standards. Founded in Washington, D.C. in 1957, the Association today has a membership of over 150 interpreters and translators. They are based in many countries of the Western Hemisphere -- Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Guatemala, Mexico, Netherlands, Antilles, Peru, the United States, Uruguay, Venezuela -- and in Europe, Chad and Japan as well. Many of them are permanently employed by international organizations, government agencies and universities; the others work on a free-lance basis. |
