Translation - English First philosophers:
The first development of homeopathy as part of the medical system was discovered in Greece by the physician Hippocrates (460-350 BCE), who became known as the Father of Medicine. He wrote ‘By similar things a disease is produced and through the application of the like is cured.’
Hippocrates, indirectly, recognized the natural ability of the body to cure itself and wrote a medical hypothesise which stated: ‘by removing any impediments they have, people will improve their health.’ He also wrote that a person´s symptoms are an expression of the curative power in nature.
A compatriot founder of Greek medicine, like Hippocrates was Galen (130-200 BCE). His knowledge on anatomy and physiology enabled him to write: ‘Nature cures by using the like.’ For more than 1000 years Galen was recognised as an authority in medicine, however during said period no significant progress was made. During XV and XVI centuries, medicine developed slowly until a Swiss physician and reformist, Theophrastus Von Bombast (1493-1541) also known with the pseudonym Paracelsus, argued against the principle that remedies should cause opposite reactions and proposed that like should be cured by like. He was convinced that every diseased organ had its corresponding remedy in nature. Like his ancestors, his conclusions were intuitive and lacked a scientific point of view.
