The icon for broken characters is not working in those kudoz questions with -you guessed- broken characters. What can we do?

Name of Powow in Mexico - where do I report it? Feb 23, 2006

In all of my pages, a coming powow in Mexico is announced and instead of México (accent) it has a Chinese character...

The icon does not appear there (though I do get the announcement with the little check mark)

Where do I report it?

regards,

heidi

Heidi,

The Powwow's aren't being converted just yet, if you're looking at the page for that particular Powwow it shouldn't be using unicode just yet. If you saw the name of the Powwow appearing somewhere else that was unicode just tell me where that was.

Postings ok, (some) posters' / forum names garbled Feb 23, 2006

Hi Andrew,

Actually, I have a problem with the forum: I have to view postings in unicode, in order to be able to read them, but the names of posters with special characters are garbled (mostly a strange symbol with a question mark in the middle). If I switch back to Western I can read the namesof posters or of forum names (such as *Déjà* Vu) correctly, but postings are garbled

?

In my case (27/02/2006) Feb 27, 2006

In the main page:

a) My name in the left upper corner is OK.

b) KudoZ Term Translation Questions - Portuguese words with accents, are garbled

In KudoZTM term question:

My name is garbled on agree/disagree but the comment is correct. Also garbled under Answerer in the Answers table and beside the photo when the question is closed.

Info appears but not the working buttons Feb 27, 2006

Here is the same problem, the info about the change is there but I cant use it as the buttons are unfunctional, all the kudoz questions which I recieve garbled (automatic Iso-standard) don't have a choice to change, there must be a atomatic way to get these buttons added or the info buttons working. Do you have to change something by hand?

Are the questions garbled due to the text which the askers writes? Greetings

Hello,
the e-mail notifications are encoded in Unicde (UTF-8) so to view them properly you need to switch encoding of your e-mail client to Unicode. Also, I noticed that switching off aytomatic selection is better.

As concerns buttons on KudoZ pages: the X and V marks are working when they appear at individual questions, answers, agrees, etc. NOT AT THE TOP of the page - this is explanation only!
Whenever you see a text garbled - pls check first if your browser encoding is Unicode, if yes and the text is garbled - then sometimes you will see X and V marks, but not always. If the text is already in Unicdoe, there is no marks.

HTH,
Magda

As you can see - your name (with acented letter) appears correctly when written on the forum, but it's garbled when it comes from your profile. To change this, please go to your profile and change encoding of your name to Unicode.

Magda

Corrections not transferred to term search page Feb 28, 2006

I have been assiduously correcting errors found in past kudoZ questions / answers but have noticed that these are not being transferred to the term search pages, e.g. Daniela Zambrini's entry on this page:
http://www.proz.com/?sp=ksearch

"default FOT territory localit࠳tabilita franco vagone/autocarro"

should be "località (stabilita) franco autocarro/vagone"

What about the Portfolios? Feb 28, 2006

The Spanish and Portuguese accents/diacritics in my Portfolio entries have been "garbled" as well.

Will the conversion be done to restore these letters, as well? If so, when?

Thanks and regards,

Marcelo

strange search results Mar 1, 2006

I'm not sure if I'm in the right place here, but I imagine my problem is related to the unicode migration:

When doing a German - English ProZ.com term search involving special characters (e.g. ü, ä ß) I've started getting totally unrelated search results.

An example: A search for "Kundengeschäft" ('whole words only' not ticked) brings a whole range of answers, none of which has anything to do with "Kundengeschäft", although one or two do contain "geschäft":

Is there anything I can do to get around the problem until the migration has been completed?

Thanks,

Same here. Our potential clients won't certainly like our sample translations, will they? The problem is Portfolio texts are more extense than just one-word/phrase/line to be corrected manually. I know nothing about Unicode, either, and hope this is solved -or we are told how to solve it- soon. Any response from those in charge, please?
