Hi,

I don't get any results when I run a concordance search in Trados Studio 2011. TM is activated and corresponding terms have been translated and should be in the TM. I never had this problem in Studio 2009. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Maybe it is a silly thing, but, did you properly select the pop-up menu next to the term at the concordance window? You can do searching in both source and target.

Same here - Concordance Studio 2011 can't find what WB 8 can! Nov 18, 2011

I am also wondering what is wrong with the Concordance function in Studio 2011 - or what is wrong with my settings?

I am testing Studio 2011 on one computer and simultaneously running WB 8.3.0.863 on another. Whenever I try searching from something in Concordance, it only finds the individual words in random order, but never the specific phrase!

I am testing Studio 2011 on one computer and simultaneously running WB 8.3.0.863 on another. Whenever I try searching from something in Concordance, it only finds the individual words in random order, but never the specific phrase!

For instance, if I search for "customers worldwide" in the same TM, WB8 finds 20 instances of the exact phrase and 5-10 sentences where both words are used but not consecutively. Studio 2011 only finds 4 sentences with the words "customer" in it (although the TM must contain hundreds!!!) and then stops. Nothing whatsoever about "customers worldwide" or even "worldwide"...!

Futhermore, in WB the Concordance showed creation dates and User, so that I can choose the most recently used TU, or the one created by me. Studio 2011 doesn't show any of that (or at least I can't find it). In Studio, my Project Settings say Concordance min search value 40 / max no hits 30. Did I miss a setting here?

First I realized that my standard concordance search method from WB doesn't work in Studio: I often copy source and select the phrase I want to search and then Alt+up. In Studio, doing this means it searches in the target, so I have to manually go to the Concordance window and tell it that I am actually searching in the source language, albeit in the target window... So so much for that!

But even when I do change to search source I never get any useful concordance results whatsoever - not once, and I have been using Studio 2011 for a few weeks now.

And does anyone know how to show creation date/user info in Concordance Studio 2011, if you are lucky enough to actually get some matches?

Sorry if this is a beginner ( = stupid) question, but I am hoping Christian or someone else has a quick fix by now!

Hover mouse on bottom right of concordance pane (where it alreay shows one of the dates etc.). This opens a "tooltip" where the information you want is shown.

Use Source Nov 18, 2011

My experience in 2011 is that it usually only works when you highlight the Source and use Corcordance - not when you highlight the target (if you have copied the source).

You can search in the other language using CTRL-F3 Apr 15, 2012

The programmers from SDL have considered this scenario: if you hit CTRl-F3 instead of F3 while in the target segment, the concordance search will be carried out in the source language.

Very useful, especially after having done a Copy Source.

You can change the settings in Studio to suit your own needs Jun 7, 2012

I have just upgraded from Trados Studio 2009 to Trados Studio 2011.

I had the 2009 version set up as I wanted it, but I had to reset the keyboard shortcuts in 2011 to suit my usual way of working.

I have just upgraded from Trados Studio 2009 to Trados Studio 2011.

I had the 2009 version set up as I wanted it, but I had to reset the keyboard shortcuts in 2011 to suit my usual way of working.

I use the F3 function key to perform a source language concordance search, but you can set any key or combination of keys to suit your own needs and preferences. To do this, you will need to change the "Keyboard Shortcuts" settings.

From the menu bar, select "Tools/Options/Keyboard Shortcuts. In the Keyboard Shortcuts Editor, in the "Action" column, move your cursor to "Source Concordance Search". Then move the cursor to the next column, the "Shortcut" column. Here, enter the function key or combination of keys you want to use to perform the action, e.g. "alt+up", simply by hitting that key or combination.

If the row turns red when you enter your chosen key or combination of keys, this means that the shortcut you have chosen conflicts with another function. You can resolve this easily by allocating another shortcut to that other function. If you press "OK" while the row in question is highlighted in red (the "Source Concordance Search" row in this case), you will see a message that will tell you which other function is causing the conflict. You can then simply change the shortcut for that function, which will then allow you to assign your preferred shortcut to the "Source Concordance Search" function.

If you follow these steps you should now be able to perform a source language concordance search using your preferred keyboard shortcut, for example using a function key or a combination of keys.

two concordance problems Jan 9, 2013

Hi,

I have recently had two correspondence problems.

1) Concondance search definitely cannot find some words. I searched for example "linen". It finds "line". I have opened and searched in TM. The word "linen" is there, but it does not come up in the search. I am sure. Weird though.

2) F3 works in second trial in one installation and works in first attempt, as expected. I select the word in the source and push F3, as I was doing in 2009.

Concordance is very essential for me.

Any ideas.

Thank you in advance

Concordance greyed out in Studio 2011 Jan 30, 2015

I have a similar problem in that on occasional projects when I want to check concordance, it's greyed out and says there are no TMs open. It doesn't always happen, but it has today - obviously there is a TM open, i.e. the one I'm using. When I exit, the TM updates successfully, so I must be missing something. I go to Projects and make sure the TM is allocated to this project, but concordance is still greyed out. ?

Tried everything, I think Feb 2, 2015

Sorry to bump this up again, but it's driving me bonkers. In this particular job I have to search continually for little two-worders and three-worders that come up again and again, but I have now resorting to scrolling up to previous segments to find them rather than concordance, which is non-existent. The grey window just sits there saying there are no TMs open.

Is the proper TM attached to the project? Feb 2, 2015

I would check the settings to the project and see if the proper TMs are attached to it in the Language setting. I have discovered that it is easy to forget attaching the TMs, and then I believe they are without checking.

I think so Feb 2, 2015

Thanks Roy. I know it's something like that, but can't figure it out. I highlight the translation in Projects, but not sure what to do when I go there. There isn't any Translation Memory Assigned ... tab, or anything like that. It all exports OK to Word, but I've just exited and it tells me the TM hasn't been updated since 31 January ...

Checking the Projects settings Feb 2, 2015

Have you done the following?

Go to the Projects window, right click the project in question and choose Project Settings in the menu (or click the Project Settings button on the Home ribbon).
In the Project Settings window > All language pairs > Translation memory ...
If a translation memory is listed here, I would think something is definitely wrong.
If there is no list of translation memories here, then you would have to click the Add button just above and add one

Hope this will solve it for you.

Thanks again Feb 2, 2015

That was the sequence I was looking for, Roy. Unfortunately my TM is not listed, but it doesn't let me add it in. I've decided to just create a new TM and try to import the SDXLIFF file so far into it. Not sure how to do that, but it can't be that hard.

Best,

Mervyn
