I need help with the word of reference in this context:
The trucks provide full rated capacity at 36,000 pounds with a pin carriage and only 1,000 pounds derate (35,000 pounds of lift capacity) with apron side shift carriages.

.....bajar/reducir/acortar la potencia/corriente de operación con el fin de extender la vida operativa de la máquina (eléctrica, electrónica, mecánica, etc.). Reducir la tasa de trabajo de la máquina con el mismo fin.
"equipment derate" es uno de ellos, no está en oración solo sé que es relacionado a equipos solares.
Seguramente se refiere a la operación por debajo del máximo valor nominal (de-rate) para obtener alguna mejora en algún parámetro (rendimiento, vida útil, confiabilidad, etc).

In my experience, a derated engine is one which, over time, loses performance and efficiency due to excessive use and/or continuous exposure to extremes of (for example) temperature and pressure.

AC welding machines not specifically designed for GTAW must have their output current levels derated when used for GTAW. A welding machine originally designed for use with SMAW must be derated to protect it from the effects of internal heating that occurs during GTAW. Derating is only necessary when using AC GTAW. Methods used to derate an AC welding machine are to lower the rated output current, lower the duty cycle, or both.
