: I like this one better because it interprets rather than changing the metaphor. The dust settling is carefully chosen to go with whirlwind, and its origin is the old shoot-em-ups of Western movies. Water doesn't impede "seeing", but dust does.

Thank you Ruth. I totally agree, the problem I see with "cuando las cosas se calmaron" is the fact that it is too 'dry', even if it is a descriptive translation. passion-fire is probably better style-wise. It is a nice translation challenge :)
