as Juan Jacob points out... this is "mas no" and not "más no", i.e., not a misprint!
Juan Jacob Jul 7, 2022:
...mas no... = pero no. Nada extraño.

Source country? I wonder which country this is from. The "mas no" construction seems rather odd to me. (I'm accustomed to European Spanish).

"which, in their minds, they avoid fulfilling/doing"

Suponiendo que utilices "duties" o "tasks" antes, creo que quedaría bien decir "... their duties, which, in their minds, they avoid fulfilling".

agree Carol Gullidge : or "which, according to them..." or "as far as they were concerned...". These are certainly not an improvement on "in their minds" but merely a couple of synonymous expressions

they would avoid it initially

The initial avoidance of completing the assigned tasks might produce a sensation of liberty, however, on completion of the assigned tasks those initial sensations of liberty seem to be of an erroneous or mistaken satisfaction.

SP:

and "but" for the "mas"

bit like "mais" in French...
Peer comment(s):

agree neilmac : Does the "mas no" part mean "rather than"?

the "más no" sounds like "in addition to"
neutral Carol Gullidge : it's not "más no", but "mas no" (no accent)
