Spanish term (edited):
(Arg.) Impugnar un abogado (de oficio?), letrado impugnado
Selected
(BrE) Challenge a (court-appointed?) Attorney; Lawyer challenged
As the late and great ProZ US/Mex translator Henry Hinds would have implored, let us have the source-country and target readership.
In England & Wales - where only judges can be 'recused' - often a Letrado goes to a Solicitor vs. Procurador (albeit in a civil vs. criminal outdoor-clerking case) being Barrister.

Example sentence:

: My vote is for "challenge", but let me tell you that the source sounds extremely odd in Spanish. The usual expression is "recusar a un abogado", not "impugnar" (used rather for documentation of the proceedings). // HH, yes, we all miss him.

Thanks and gracias! Alas, the source is rather 'saucy' and shows that legal language can be 'creative'.//Sadly HH and I will never get a chance to visit Argentina (a las argentinas) together....

impugn (verb)

"the father does not impugn her capacity as a good mother"

As Toni and others have commented, it may be a statement, claim or defence that is being impugned, rather than the "Letrado" per se.

"Impugn" can be applied in either case.

Discussion
As below, I usually see impugnar as in to challenge or contest a decision...
El lenguaje en general es bastante complejo, sin necesidad de serlo!!
