French term

égalisation

French to English Law/Patents Certificates, Diplomas, Licenses, CVs
This term appears as EGALISATION 500 F on an affixed stamp for a divorce certificate. I presume it means 'FEE' or 'PAYMENT' but in my reserach I was unable to confirm this. THe certificate comes from MALI

Has anyone seen this before and can confirm or contradict me?

stamp duty fee paid / stamp duty had been paid

It is a text over the fee stamp/stap duty

Stamp duty is a tax that is levied on documents. Historically, this included the majority of legal documents such as cheques, receipts, military commissions, marriage licences and land transactions. A physical stamp (a revenue stamp) had to be attached to or impressed upon the document to denote that stamp duty had been paid before the document was legally effective. More modern versions of the tax no longer require an actual stamp.
Sometimes it is 'stamp duty payable' and the stamp just affixed

So the full word on the stamp is not égalisation but Légalisation

neutral B D Finch : How do you connect that to the French term "égalisation"?

I do apostille and legalization daily. Légalisation de documents français | service-public.fr https://www.service-public.fr/particuliers/.../F1400 - the stamp might be not clear :)
agree Charles Davis : I was going to ask the same question as B D Finch; I hadn't realised you were reading it as a typo, but it does fit and I think you're probably right.

Sorry, it happens so often because, the ladies do not press the stamp hardly - I just forgot to add an explanation, because I am working at the moment.
agree Daryo : an "L" MUST be missing // the link is https://www.service-public.fr/particuliers/vosdroits/F1400 // I still remember buying the most literal "tax stamps" and sticking them to all sort of official documents ...

Merci beaucoup, Daryo!

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I had not considered that an L was missing and when I look at the stamp the word 'egalisation' is printed so clear it is hard to believe. But I like the translation of 'stamp duty' so thankyou"
