@Emil An assessore in local government is the same as a minister in central government: part of the executive appointed by the elected representatives. I remember when Sgarbi became assessore alla cultura al comune di Milano. I stopped translating for one of the city's art museums soon thereafter. Read my wiki reference for details of "assessore". By no means is an assessore and "advisor". An assessore has advisors.

You are right, Phil. I have actually opted for ''councilor''. It is a local government job. AFAIK it should be the government's local representative for the promotion of culture. That is all the context I had.

Phil True, the whole title as such is not in the glossary, but if you enter the individual terms separately, you'll get some useful renditions, I think (not necessarily the ones that have been awarded points, but still...).

Not "bitterness". It's not in the glossary, but I do think some more context would be useful so that we can decide how to translate "assessore". Is this a local authority job? If so, it probably means "councillor". Otherwise it could just be "advisor".

You could say "development" (in fact in some ways I prefer it), but this is closer to the Italian.

The asker has confirmed in the discussion entries that this is a member of a local council.

Councillor with responsibility for promoting the community and culture

I think "community" is the best translation of "territorio" here. An "assessore" is an officer of a "comune", a province, or a region so at its smallest this cound be a tiny village. Here I believe territorio means the local community as in "infermiere del territorio"( https://www.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=&=&q="infe... ), a nurse that visits patients in their homes in the community, a "community nurse" ( https://www.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=&=&q="comm... )

I have translated "assessore" as "councillor" which is standard practice. One problem with this is that the "assessore" is appointed by the elected representatives and like central government ministers need not necessarily be an elected councillor for comuni with more than 15,000 inhabitants.

Nell'ordinamento italiano è detto assessore il componente dell'organo esecutivo di un ente territoriale locale, in particolare della giunta regionale, provinciale o comunale, diverso dal presidente (che, nel caso del comune, è il sindaco).

I used to translate articles for a specialist journal on planning called "Territorio" so I wrestled with the term for years, with a list of possible translations.
