Russian term

удельный вес

Russian to English Other Social Science, Sociology, Ethics, etc.
Sovremennaya demograficheskaya situatziya v mire xarakterizuetsya uvelicheniem srednei prodolzhitelnosti predsotyashei zhizni cheloveka, snizheniem urovnya rozhdaemosti, uvelecheniem udelnovo vesa litz pozhilovo i starcheskovo vozrasta.
Obviously, I know that udelni ves literally means specific gravity in a physics context. Is the term being used in a figurative way here? Does it almost mean 'burden'? The text is concerned with the depopulation of Russia.

age ratio

The Russian term «удельный вес» can be used in various subject areas, not only in physics. But it's definitely not a ‘burden’.
In this context «удельный вес» means the increase in age ratio towards the growing amount of old people.
