special comprehensive exam
Given the discussion entries and your initial description, it sounds like a special type of (comprehensive) exam given to students whose grades did not meet the minimum requirement to take the regular exam. Since this exam (which is different from the one taken by students who have not studied that school year) is comprehensive in nature, i.e., either covering the material from that year or previous years, something like "special comprehensive exam" might be a good option. Finding suitable equivalents across educational systems can be a challenge (to say the least), but this might be a good solution in this context.
I hope this helps!
