German term

Schnulzenheini

German to English Art/Literary Slang
Greetings,

This term was used in the context of a row between an unfaithful man and his jealous wife, if I remember rightly, in the soap "Alisa – Folge deinem Herzen". Sorry I can't remember any more context.

All the best,

Simon

Discussion

Rayne Trans Apr 1, 2009:
Schnulzenheini Ich denke bei dem Ausdruck an Mehreres, z.B. an Leute, die gerne Schlager hören oder mitsingen, selbst Schlagersänger, oder auch nur Fans von schnulzigen Filmen oder Büchern sind.
seehand Apr 1, 2009:
Schnulzenheini So kenne ich das auch
silvia glatzhofer Mar 31, 2009:
Schnulzenheini as used in Austria Ich kenne den Ausdruck nur für Schlagersänger - Leute, die Schnulzen singen, also niveaulose Lieder mit 3 Akkorden, die von Liebe, Schmerz und Sehnsucht handeln, gerne auch von glühenden Alpengipfeln o.ä.

By whom, and to whom, Simon? That may make a difference...
Sabine Akabayov, PhD Mar 31, 2009:
A "Schnulze" is a schmaltzy movie and a Schnulzenheini is someone who likes schmaltzy movies. Doesn't have to be negative, but in this case it probably is. I don't know an English equivalent though.
SeiTT (asker) Mar 31, 2009:
PS I've just remembered that the word “dein” was used before the word Schnulzenheini , if that helps.

soppy twerp/soppy tomfool/schmaltzy tomfool

Soppy little twerps in local government who think they know better than you do? Young people today? The nanny state?

Worst of all, Rational Barb (currently locked in a small broom closet in Barb!Brain Central, and not particularly happy about it) can see exactly what a soppy twerp Hormonal Barb is being, and delivers a constant stream of cutting commentary on same, so I can’t even enjoy wallowing in self-pity;

agree Anne-Marie Grant (X) : I would say fool rather than tomfool. Soppy fool is good.

Thank you, intext
