This deceptively simple little term cropped up in a text about medical research. A company is requesting permission to conduct a drug study, and is receiving a response from a government agency. The agency's response reads:
"A estos antecedentes le son de aplicación los siguientes:
FUNDAMENTOS DE DERECHO
*Unico.* Son the aplicación al presente procedimiento la Ley xxxx, etc. "
I can think of many translations for 'único' such as 'sole, only, unique, single, one-time, exclusive ...' The problem is that I don't know what this term 'único' is doing at the beginning of the paragraph; I don't understand why it's there.
A KudoZ question about this was asked in 2006, and the answers suggested that this could mean 'sole paragraph' or 'sole clause'. Do our current experts agree with this, or is there another meaning?

I'm pretty sure I know what it means, although I'm no legal expert. I think it just means "1", as in the Spanish are fond of enumerating clauses in contracts, etc, and "único" just means it's the only clause.
