Spanish term

heavy goods vehicle

Spanish to English Other Transport / Transportation / Shipping
Wouldn't we use some other term for this in the States?

I'm proofing a doc with a mix of British and American English, but as I've been in Europe so long, I can't remember if there's another way to say it in AmEng. I'm completely blanking here.

Thanks much for your help.
Proposed translations (English)

Nedra Rivera Huntington (asker) Feb 19, 2008:
I guess I was hoping that I could get the response of some Americans to the term, but given the time of night there, seems unlikely. Ah well!
Nedra Rivera Huntington (asker) Feb 19, 2008:
Unfortunately, I don't. I also don't have the original Spanish, which would probably help. The only load mentioned so far is cement, so I might just go with 'truck' as selected below and leave a comment for the client.
Lisa McCarthy Feb 19, 2008:
Hi Nedra - Any photos of this vehicle by any chance? Or do you know the quantity and type of supplies this vehicle is carrying? Could be a turck/lorry or heavy goods vehicle depending on what the load is.
Nedra Rivera Huntington (asker) Feb 19, 2008:
Clarification The idea is a vehicle which transports supplies to a construction site for a major public infrastructure project.

In the UK we call it a lorry

you are looking too far. Truck for US is fine as would be lorry for UK
Note from asker:
So you would say a lorry and a heavy good vehicle are synonyms? To me 'truck' is too general. The idea is a vehicle which transports supplies to a construction site for a major public infrastructure project.
