ProZ

Non-PRO English Other Linguistics Personal interpretation
Here is a little question you can all join in with. It is meant for fun but I am sure it can be educational as well...
How do YOU, personally, pronounce the name of this website?
PRO ZED? PRO ZEE? PROSE?
Or maybe you have another? (My husband calls it "That *!%#!! website!")
So interested in what everybody has to say...

Discussion

Elena Petelos Jul 20, 2006:
(You see prozac/kudozone/prozodine/forumfibrate have been around for some time now (in the Greek community). By the time Nick joined we were... spinning. :))
Elena Petelos Jul 20, 2006:
Absolutely (got the play), but I had to have a bit of fun myself. ;-)
Ulrike Kraemer Jul 20, 2006:
cbolton is right. If this is merely a FUN question, you should have posted it in a discussion forum, and not in KudoZ. Nobody should earn points for contributing to it.
Catherine Bolton Jul 20, 2006:
For "how to grade it", this should have been a "not for points" questions. Maybe you can still change that or have a moderator change it.
Zhuoqi Mills (X) (asker) Jul 19, 2006:
I am not so interested in what THEY call it, its what WE call it that interests me, I want to see how the world divides up...
As to how I grade it...? Its a Fun question so the most Fun answer wins!

Am I the only one who calls it ProZac?

*Side effects*
Common adverse effects include anxiety ... in addition to restlessness and insomnia. Weight loss, trembling, weakness, skin rash, anorgasmia, itching, and a decrease in sexual drive, have also been reported. Finally it has been reported to cause subsequent weight gain...
(From the Wikipedia)
Note from asker:
To Elena: Didn't you get the play on words? Pronounce and pronounce a verdict? Seems not. To Nick: Some don't think I should give points for a "Fun" question, but others do and creativity deserves credit as somebody else has said. So.... because your comment shows both wit, wisdom and creativity, guess what...you win!!
Peer comment(s):

agree Elena Petelos : With emphasis on: *personally*, not pronounce, refer to. Prozodine, kudozone, etc. (and speaking for a large part of the Greek community -I think. :-))

Well I rang them and they said it's prose but

I guess it depends on where you are in the world.

I asked about the "Z" too and they said it was just really in at the time the company started, to end names with Z.

How are you going to grade this? ZZZZZZZZZZ
Note from asker:
I think it is pretty ironic for a website that exists for language pros to deliberately mispell itself just to be trendy! Thanks for telling us all WHY they are called the way they are. Fashion!

pros (as in professionals)

Hello Zhuoqi,
I say "pros".
This is taken from the Proz.com FAQ's. Please see the link below.

"2. How is "ProZ.com" pronounced?
At headquarters in New York, ProZ.com staff refer to the site as "proz-dot-com", with the 'proz' part pronounced exactly like "(written) prose" or "pros" (as in professionals). But some people say "pro-zee-dot-com", "pro-zed", "procetta", etc."

Good luck from Oso ¶:^)

I myself pronounce it PROZZ (with a short "o")
Note from asker:
Thanks. Very informative and I agree with you that if it is spelled that way it also ought to be said the way you say it. Love the headgear!

creativity deserves a little credit too, right?

Hello my friends!
Just my opinion: I think creativity deserves a little credit too.
"Don't take life too seriously; you'll never get out of it alive".

Smile and relax, life is short! :-))
Note from asker:
Absolutely! May yours be long and filled with smiles.
