Job description:
About us

Avantpage is a translation provider committed to empowering immigrant and LEP communities through language access primarily in the health and government services arena.  Our business is growing, and the right candidate will have opportunities to advance within the company. We are a global company with offices in Davis, CA, Mexico City, and Warsaw, Poland. We are always looking for talented professionals ready to live our values of empathy, opportunity, and rigor!

Job Overview

Proofers have a key role in our Operations department, ensuring that the final result in our work matches the original source. They run the finally quality assurance step in our projects to make sure that everything is up to par with what our clients expect from us.

We're looking for freelance professionals that are willing to collaborate with us on a daily basis. We will prioritize candidates that are US-based, and/or who are familiar with Chinese, Korean, Japanese, or Arabic, but all profiles are welcome. We will NOT consider agencies for this opportunity.

This posting is for an ongoing collaboration, not an individual project.

Your Role:

- Closely compare the target file to the source file in order to highlight, comment and/or correct linguistic and non-linguistic preferences of each client, such as errors related to formatting, layout, graphics and the content that must remain as per source file. Verify completeness, correctness, and consistency of the translated file.

- Make changes to the target document, where appropriate, in order to ensure that it mirrors the source document.

- If making a change is not possible/appropriate due to the nature of the file format, add clear and concise comments directly in the file, indicating specifically what kind of change needs to be done.

- Write specific and concise comments to communicate with linguists, graphic designers, and PM about changes.

- If instructed by the Proofing Coordinator, fill out the DQA evaluation.
