Portuguese to English: Arquinha Watersprout and Fountain General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Architecture
Translation - English Arquinhas were small water reservoirs fed by a larger tank, or an irrigation tank, located at higher levels than those it fed, and from them came lead pipes that fed the different houses.
Tis water distribution system was spread all over the island and in some walls the set of fountain/livestock watering hole/washing station/arquinhas still exists. These are recognizable by the door that was placed on them for greater safety and to guarantee the
cleanliness and potability of the water.
English to Portuguese: Miniatura de “Dança Popular” General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting
Translation - Portuguese This miniature of a "Dança Popular" (Popular Dance) was made by students in Escola Mista da Ladeira Grande, under the guidance of their teacher. It portrays a traditional Carnival pantomime in it's 1950s presentation. It is composed of cloth dolls wearing traditional military uniforms. They represent contemporaneous versions of the master, the dancers, the musicians and the comedian. The first two are dressed in white robes, red and gold bands crossed over the chest and cinched at the waist, and a kind of crown (or tiara) on the head, and the last figurine, is the mocking old man, cartoonishly dressed in ragged and untidy clothes.

Bio
I was born and raised in Azores, right by the American military base, so I grew up fluently speaking English. I discovered a passion for writing at a relatively young age and then decided to pursue linguistics as a field of study. By the time my bachelor's degree was completed I realized I have a real passion for translation, as it is, in my view, it can showcase some of the most fascinating challenges within human communication. So I enrolled in a master's degree in translation itself.
I am currently working as an in-house translator for Museu de Angra do Heroísmo, which has allowed me to expand my areas of knowledge.
