Discussion

bigedsenior Mar 1, 2010:
It is most appropriate to refer to the troops as the Allies, because the D-Day undertaking, code name Overlord, was called the Allied Expeditionary Force (AEF). It was composed of British, Canadian and American forces, with a minscule participation of the Free French. The Suprem Commander, Gen. Eisenhower, later bacame president of the USA in 1953.

British, Americans and Canadians / allied forces

As North Americans covers both the US and Canada, you might want to be really specific and indicate all three nationalities here. Alternatively, I think the "allied forces" or "allies" could be a suitable translation.
