The responses to the previous phrases on drug use and working for free/free sex has led me to reconsider my translation of the phrase "proizvoditel'stvo evenkov". Here is the paragraph:

There is no such word as Proizvoditel'stvo in dictionaries, but it can easily be derived from the existing word Proizvoditel to designate precisely the sort of activities refferred to in the above rendering of the moovie. As Evenks are not mentally or otherwise inferior to the rest of the world, I think the phrase Proizvoditel'stvo evenkov bears no derogatory connotation concerning the Evenks, so my translation would be: helping increase the birth rate of Evenks.

There is no such word as 'proizvoditel'stvo'. I think it's 'proivodstvo'. Evenky are a Northern people, usually illiterate, like chukchas (there were many stories about chukchas). So my understanding is that they want to scare or even beat people into obedience, maybe beating their brains out.

"Proizvoditel" is either a manufacturer or sire, progenitor. Evenki, as correctly explained in the preceding note, is a backward Northern people (related to the Inuit of Northern Canada). "Proizvoditelstvo" probably refers to the reproductive process rather than anything to do with manufacturing. I can contact friends in Russia who could give you an exhaustive explanation if you feel this is important enough.

First of all, this expression, "proizvoditeljstvo evenkov", is not a wide-spread expression even in terms of slang, it's rather an author's coinage with a connotation of, yes, as other people prompted here, a Northern nation BELIEVED IN RUSSIA TO BE backward. It has a rich culture which should be recognized for itself, but in Russia these people were often treated contemptuously as not having higher education and living in raindeerhide huts - and therefore as supposedly dumb. So this is rather an offensive newly-coined slang expression meaning generally "siring dumbheads".

It should indeed be PROIZVODSTVO EVENKOV and it's for sure slang (and not very honest/serious towards the Even(k)i, as a matter of fact): you might want to travel to Bratsk (Siberia) (or was it Irkutksk ?) and go and visit one of the 'Eveni' villages in the neighbourhood (19th century, indeed): there's a nicely restored village there, where you'll even find some remains of a 'Eveni Shaman's dwelling'.

I fully agree with Soloviov who, apparently, watched the actual movie. It was one of the funniest parts of it: one of the brothers making his living having sex with a lot of Evenki women so each and every one of them could conceive a pretty child or more. He even received a photo of all those children he had helped "produce".

The word PROIZVODITELSTVO hints at the low level the Evenkis master Russian. Or it may be some bad command of Russian on the part of the author of the text, since there are no more words of the same connotation; they are too correct.
