Still on Code of Ethics........
"A formulação dum código de ética deve, pois, envolver intencionalmente todos of membros do grupo social que ele abrangerá. Isso exige um sistema de elaboração de baixo para cima, do diverso ao unitário, constituindo-se consensos progressivos de tal modo que o resultado final seja reconhecido como representativo de todas as disposições morais e éticas do grupo." Phew! Who wrote this drivel?! Thanks in advance.

committed to the diversity and to the unity

Explanation:
Hello,

It seems to me that "diverso" means "diversity", as ethnic variety, as well as socioeconomic and gender variety, in a group, society, or institution, and "unitário" meaning "unity", as harmony of opinion, interest, or feeling.

Good luck

from the variety to the single [opinion]

Explanation:
It is obvious he/she is talking about people and the achievement of a "consensus".
Similar to "principistas" (one word) for a good translation you had to add another - "people of principles" - just because there is no such word as "principista" in Portuguese. Here, I believe you have the same thing, i.e. to add [in square brackets, if you wish, to show thtat the word was not in the original] the word "opinion" to make it perfectly clear in English - "opinion" - a consensus is made from a variety [of opinions} to form a single [opinion]. There is the word "singleness" in English, but,to me it would sound as "odd" as the whole convulated phrase in Portuguese.
Well, philosophers and sociologists are allowed to "invent" words - there you have the result.

When I was supercilious and obnoxious I used long convulated phrases to impress.
    Not anymore.
