@Giles When I posted "major amendment" I was really thinking of a series of minor amendments just as you have described it, which taken altogether constitute one major amendment and I think other people would probably interpret it in the same way, rather than one single very large change.

A "maxiemendamento" contains various provisions Jim's "major" is fine for the "maxi" part of the term but a "maxiemendamento" is generally a sort of summary document containing all the adjustments inserted during the course of the bill's progress through Parliament.

Depending on the context, it might be an idea to underline the plurality of the measures concerned by talking about "a major set/package/series of amendments".
