self-taught or private student or self -studied

It may solve the purpose.
Peer comment(s):

agree Anindita Basu (X) : I think "private student" is the best option. A direct translation (such as "self-learner") may not convey the meaning intended by the examination board.

committed student

स्वाध्यायी means studious, in the case of a student who is regular in his studies and studious I would use the term 'committed'

According to Sanskrit-Hindi Dictionary by B.R.Apte, One who studies Vedas or always busy in studies is called स्वाध्यायी. so the first meaning is not relavant so far as the language of a certificate, nowadays, is concerned but the second meaning is very much relevant to which I gave the word studious. I think this will be the appropriate word for the purpose.
