German term

Abgesetzte Standorte (IPDA)

German to English Tech/Engineering Telecom(munications) Online & telemarketing
Context:

"Abgesetzte Standorte (IPDA) ermöglichen Amtsausstieg vor Ort und Nutzung der Standleitung nach Deutschland."

This is about a company that has a central IT & telecomms infrastructure at its head office in Germany and various offices around the world. The international branches/offices can use the central infrastructure at head office, but these "Abgesetzte Standorte" can't. I haven't yet found a clearly relevant meaning of the acronym IPDA.

Discussion

Ramey Rieger (X) Apr 16, 2011:
According to one who knows, see explanation on both words. It wasn't "auf meinem Mist gewachsen".
Ramey Rieger (X) Apr 16, 2011:
Possibly "abgesetzte Standorte" are independent offices with their own IT systems, related to but not "plugged in" to the central system? And "Amtsausstieg" is separated from the "Amtsleitung". Just a thought
David Williams (asker) Apr 16, 2011:
But anyway What on earth is Amtsausstieg???
David Williams (asker) Apr 16, 2011:
Can one site be distributed? Would such sites really be called "distributed sites", Christian? Each site is a site in itself, an integral entity, and isn't distributed, is it?
I'd have thought they would be something like 'remote sites', but how do I set them apart from the 'Niederlassungen'?
Jonathan MacKerron Apr 16, 2011:
delegated sites perhaps?
Christian Schneider Apr 16, 2011:
ditributed ... nothing more or less
David Williams (asker) Apr 16, 2011:
Thanks That's very helpful, but how would you describe the sites that use IPDA?
Christian Schneider Apr 16, 2011:
'sub' or 'secondary' implies a hierarchy that is not given here.
Johanna González Apr 16, 2011:
Jonathan, you should suggest yours as an answer - I think it might be right
Johanna González Apr 16, 2011:
IP Distributed Architecture perhaps? Could IPDA stand for Internet Protocol Distributed Architecture? Apparently it is a network architecture that allows to transfer data from a central point to several access points ("Bei der IP Distributed Architecture (IPDA) handelt es sich um eine verteilte IP-Architektur. Es ist die Migration für die Einbindung vorhandener Leitungsressourcen, Dienste sowie Übertragungs- und Vermittlungskomponenten in ein ganzheitliches IP-Konzept. Bei IPDA bildet das IP-Netz das Transportnetz, über das nicht nur Sprachdaten in Form von IP-Datenpaketen, sondern auch Signalisierungsdaten zwischen der zentralen Steuerung und den Access Points (AP) übermittelt werden.")
Jonathan MacKerron Apr 16, 2011:
sub-sites/second-tier sites/secondary sites a tough nut to crack...
David Williams (asker) Apr 16, 2011:
Additional context Merkmale der TK Infrastruktur:
...
• Verteilte Architektur

neutral Johanna González : But wait... thats only the architecture/network, right? Then we´d still need "abgesetzte standorte", which would be the actual site like Jonathan suggested in the discussion? i.e. a secondary site connected to IPDA

distant locations

Here is an example I found in the Internet:

Auch für abgesetzte Standorte und die Verbindung zwischen mehreren Gebäuden ist IP-TV eine attraktive Lösung...

English: IP-TV is an attractive solution for distant locations and for the connection of different buildings, too....

branch offices

It seems that this is a feature of the provider and that "abgesetzte Standorte" most definatley have access to the infrastructure at the home office. Can you check that? Because you said they don't, but my genius is certain that they do have access.
