Deutsch term

Gartenschach

Deutsch > Englisch Sonstige Sport/Fitness/Erholung Chess
Is this referred to in English simply as "garden chess"?

And what is it - is it a designated area of one's garden divided into 64 squares for the purpose of being moved upon by overdimensional chessmen such as the big plastic ones one sometimes sees at seaside resorts?

(Is offered by a so-called "Schachversand").

outdoor chess

I think Gartenschach implies any chess game played outdoors with giant chess pieces. You can buy large individual squares and set up the game anywhere outdoors.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Yes, it sounds like this, rather than simply "garden chess". Thanks."

Indeed, it seems there is such a thing as garden chess - check (no pun intended) this site for example!

Garden chess

I think you are right. Just like the ones you see in public gardens, parks etc.

outdoor chess

When you purchase a "garden chess" set at a UK store, it is referred to as "outdoor chess".

Being offered by a \"Versand\" I would suggest this was a set in this case.
