Discussion

Veronika McLaren (asker) Mar 1, 2013:
When I looked up the UK word for Assistenzarzt I found "senior house officer" rather than "resident physician" - which is preferable?
Veronika McLaren (asker) Mar 1, 2013:
It is UK I am looking for - the question mark slipped in by way of "please"...
Lancashireman Mar 1, 2013:
UK English? Sorry, I don't understand the significance of the question mark here, but if you really are looking for UK English, you will need a formulation that does not include 'physician'.
philgoddard Feb 28, 2013:
No, I wouldn't leave the German unless there is some special reason to do so.

Ombudsmann-Modell

When I applied, shortlisting was based on points and you needed publications, presentations, and something different such as being the junior doctor rep.

This entry comes rather late, and the version with 'physician' (cue Jane Austen) has already attracted agrees from as far afield as New Orleans, Slovenia, India, Germany and Vancouver, so it may not be what is required for your EN-UK readership.

The answer selected will be useful to a translator who is not looking specifically for EN-UK, so this is a good result.
Note from asker:
Thank you very much for the links - with the short deadline for the job, I actually used the term "senior house officer rep" and the British proof reader seemed to have no objection.
