close and convenient locations
Do you expect a wide range of brands at close and convenient locations?
In English I think we would normally focus on the convenience of a specific location (or locations). This implies that you don't have to travel across town and halfway to the next city to make purchases.

Since we now know that this is at a trade fair (it appeared at first to be about marketing/market research -- and not a marketing blurb for a trade fair), the "convenient location" is presumably within the event itself. "Do you expect a wide range of brands (conveniently located) within easy walking distance?"

That was just because the categories here on ProZ are a bit restrictive... I chose the best I think I could. |

Johanna Timm, PhD
: I think your original suggestion is spot on; it covers the trade fair context and also works very well as a general statement

I'm assuming this is a general question in the text and not specifically referring to the trade fair.

: I wouldn't say that, David. In fact, I think it misses the mark. The idea is that things are close and convenient, easy to reach, well organized and intelligently laid out -- not that visitors can take a shortcut.

"shortcut" is used figuratively here Paul :)

Thanks, Jutta. Agree with you, "are you expecting" can be left out altogether.

(product) variety at close range
does it refer to product (brand) variety with short transport patterns? (buy local concept?)

Given the added context ("it is marketing blurb for a trade fair"), this might work well. I understand the source text to refer specifially to the trade fair and the fact that a wide variety of companies will be concentrated there (ie. "kurze Wege" auf der Messe, but not necessarily meaning that the trade fair itself is within easy reach of whereever the reader is based).
Of course, this won't work for outdoor events, but it might be an idea worth considering.
