Aaaah! Yet another query from this shopping centre survey and I can't find this one anywhere. I should perhaps add that this is an Austrian document, just in case that helps.

"Die spontane Bekanntheit ist kaum messbar, auch die gestützte ist mit 46 Prozent bescheiden (angesichts der Tatsache, dass die Befragung **besucheraffin** angelegt wurde!)."

Could it just mean "was targeted at visitors"?

Any suggestions very welcome, yet again.

I think this is a combination of Besucher + affin [Latin, as in affinity] = besuchernah

i..e., depending on syntax, "accessible", customized to the visitors/customers...I am sure you can think of something now that we have eliminated all the cute "Volksetymologien".offered ... - what they're saying is that the survey was made so it was easy to understand by the type of Besucher they were polling, and still they didn't know X...

I'd go with "and despite the fact that the survey had been customized to the visitors!"

agree Marcelo Silveyra : No doubt about it. Now we need a good way to say it in English.

agree Kcda : inclination would be better than affinity I believe. Whether that would be common is a whole different thing!

dummy customer

The context lends itself to the idea that the customer was retained by the surveying company to ensure that the survey was properly conducted. The term "xxxaffin" in Viennese is derogatory, by the way.

visitor affinity

That was my first impression -- it would also suit the context at first glance too, IMO.

neutral Bernhard Sulzer : not sure, here it might be a more basic "affin" as in "geared towards/designed (angelegt) the visitor; see example for affinity: http://www.comscore.com/press/release.asp?press=333
