German term

Heißländen

German to English Science Geography rivers
"Auwälder sind hier noch ebenso zu finden, wie die „Heißländen“, trockene Sand - und Schotterbänke mit vielen seltenen Orchideenarten. "
talking about national parks in Austria.
I figure it has something to do with desert or savanna-like areas that build up next to a river, but is there a specific term?
Proposed translations (English)

xeric habitats

Or extremely dry habitat

Apart from causing artificial groundwater recharge, the floods set free side arms and form new islands in different locations. Wet meadows and wet habitats are not the only typical features of this area:xeric habitats (called Heißländen) are particularly impressive with their thin humus
layer on substrates of sand and pebbles, and their African savannah-like vegetation.
