Discussion

Aniello Scognamiglio (X) May 16, 2005:
Dove sta? Who, me? I live in Germany:-)
Aniello Scognamiglio (X) May 11, 2005:
@Stephen: "Business" IS important here because the context is "business processes" and not pizzas and cheese;-)
Stephen Sadie May 11, 2005:
We are becoming clearer and clearer that it is best to omit the word "business" as I originally suggested. And without "business" I naturally have even more googlies (for those who care, Aniello!)
Aniello Scognamiglio (X) May 11, 2005:
These BPM software systems are often called ERP systems (enterprise resource planning).
Aniello Scognamiglio (X) May 11, 2005:
Tom, that is exactly the reason why I suggested a commonly used term that nicely covers all areas of business! To get a feel, just enter "business process software" or BPM in Google.
Non-ProZ.com May 11, 2005:
Please note again: >>all business processes -- from order processing to shipping and accounting etc....<<
This clearly indicates that more than (for instance) order processing is involved here. This is not a banking environment. The object is to make all business processes >>durchgngiger<<, including production. Tom
Stephen Sadie May 11, 2005:
Which is exactly what I am (born in England, half my life in Germany, dual-nationality, stduied in both countries, German resident for some 20 years)
Non-ProZ.com May 11, 2005:
Thanks for your question, Aniello! -- That's precisely my problem: There is no further context to clarify that. I'm hoping for answers from respondents more familiar than I am with the German conventions of how the term tends to be used there. Tom
BrigitteHilgner May 11, 2005:
More context is necessary: it might be order processing, it could also be settlements (in a banking environment, for example). So far, everyone is guessing.
Aniello Scognamiglio (X) May 11, 2005:
It is very important to know what "abgewickelt" wird! You could say "processing software" but you could also refer to the software itself.
Aniello Scognamiglio (X) May 11, 2005:
What precisely is meant by "Abwicklung" here?

business process software

Since your "overall" context is "management of business processes" I would use "business process software" (no "ing" at the end) to be on the safe side. Typical BPM software vendors are Oracle, SAP, Siebel...

business processing software

Plenty of Google hits for this term. I think Abwicklung here refers to "Auftragsabwicklung".
Peer comment(s):

neutral Stephen Sadie : Why does everybody treat Google as the Bible? Or do you all use automatic translation software!!???

I use Google with precaution and added "business" to make clear it is not an industrial process here.
neutral Aniello Scognamiglio (X) : in fact, Google entries are often wrong and not reliable, e.g. "business process*ing* software" gets 2750 hits, "business process software" gets 17500 hits! Still call that a lot?

process software

why does the first answerer use the word "business"?
Peer comment(s):

neutral Aniello Scognamiglio (X) : shouldn't it be "process*ing* software" then?

I'm not 100% sure, I think that both will work here. Thanx!
