German term

Auflagetisch

German to English Tech/Engineering Aerospace / Aviation / Space Flughafen-Sicherheitschecks

Fachausdruck?

@Ingeborg Gowans and Ingrid Moore Thanks so much for your encouragement to post this as an answer :-)
Erich Friese Apr 1, 2009:
...I don't think this requires a literal translation. These are the table where personal (carry-on) items are being inspected ...these are the 'Auflage' on to the tables...I suggest '(Carry-on luggage) Inspection Tables' ....or something like it
Ingrid Moore Apr 1, 2009:
Auflagetisch I agree with Casper and Ingeborg!
Ingeborg Gowans (X) Apr 1, 2009:
w/ Casper I would agree; on our last flight overseas, this is exactlywhat we foubnd.. so put it in as an answer, Casper :)
casper (X) Apr 1, 2009:
Security check table ?? This is what comes to my mind after reading the description of the term in the context. However, it does not take into account the 'Auflage-' part of the asked term, plus it adds more (that is, the 'security check' element) to the meaning conveyed by the original term. [Ergo, my idea doesn't qualify to be posted as an answer.]

'Inspection desk' and 'carry-on lugage' would also work.

Er...well...not exactly a translation of the asked term, I must admit, but a sort of first idea that crossed my mind after reading the asker's explanation that these are "Tische, auf denen man sein Handgepäck, Schlüssel, Computer usw. ausbreiten muss" in the context of "Flughafen-Sicherheitschecks".
