French term or phrase: rétraction des gastrocnémiens
This is in a list of factors that can increase the risk of Achilles tendinopathy on a doctor's website. The full sentence is "des muscles du mollet trop courts (on parle de rétraction des gastrocnémiens)". The text is patient-facing but I can't find a technical or layman way of saying this in English in relation to this being something that can lead to Achilles tendinopathy. I was thinking "tight calf muscles" but I believe the text is saying that they're physiologically shorter than normal, not just tight from exercising.

Muscle contraction is the tightening, shortening, or lengthening of muscles when you do some activity. It can happen when you hold or pick up something, or when you stretch or exercise with weights. Muscle contraction is often followed by muscle relaxation, when contracted muscles return to their normal state.
