Bear with me, because it's not literal, but it could fit.

"The design on the bottle takes up and reinforces the strong personality of the indian-club bottle"
I assumed it meant the design ON the bottle...

Or of course, it could be "The design of [this] bottle takes up... of AN Indian-club bottle", using the last 'bouteille' in the general rather than the specific sense.

answering to your note:
it makes perfect sense on the contrary: it recaptures/reprend the personality of the bouteille-massue, meaning it shares some feartures or looks somewhat like that object, expresses similar aesthetics...in the same way one could argue that the new Volkswagen Beetle car recaptures the personality of the famous older one...I hope it helps :-)

You could try "develops" in this context.

The bottle design develops and strengthens the strong qualities of the indian-club bottle.
I don't believe that "personality" is appropriate here.
What I understand is that the bottle design we are talking about is based on the indian-club bottle.

Discussion
I don't know whether I'm missing something completely. Could anyone suggest a full-sentence? The "bouteille massue" is an "Indian-club bottle".
