I'm really just looking for confirmation on this one (unless, of course, I'm totally off course!)
Cages d'escaliers:
Sols: Peinture sur marches, contremarches et palier.
Murs: Revêtement plastique épais teinté dans la masse.
Plafonds et sous-face de la ***paillasse***: Revêtement plastique épais teinté dans la masse.
Désenfumage: Sans objet.
[Eclairage and Chauffage then follow as other sub-headings]
Now, I can't seem to find this as a definition for "paillasse" anywhere, but it seems logical to me that in this case, it refers to the underside of the stairs. Any thoughts, comments, am I crazy? Thanks!

waist
The paillasse is an "ouvrage en béton armé constituant la paroi rampante porteuse d'une volée d'escalier monolithique. GB: waist, solid flight (of steps)" [DIcobat]. IOW, it's the side of the stairs. By extension here it does seem to mean the entire soffit of the stairs.
waist - The narrow part of a long object, in particular the least thickness of a reinforced concrete stair slab
[Scott/Penguin Dict of Bldg - in which the diagram shows the side of stairs]

"Stair soffit" should do the trick.

Comment: "I went with "stair soffit" on this one - thanks!"

working bench
if this is related to a place to work as a lab or in a room in a research center then working bench will be a good way to translate it into english
