Een hogeschool voor vertalers (o.m. F-NL) vraagt een juiste vertaling van deze zin; er staat wel degelijk 'cofusion' en niet 'fusion'.

Een vertaling voor de term heb ik nergens gevonden, wel een aantal teksten waarin het woord 'cofusion' voorkomt (Engels en Frans).

1. Frans:
Cofusion : n.f.
L’acier peut être produit par "cofusion" de la fonte et du fer forgé. Évoluant avec le temps, les aciers ainsi produits prennent la trempe et servent à la fabrication des sabres corroyés (déformée à chaud), prototypes des fameuses armes japonaises.


2. Engels:
The intermetallic compounds are synthesized by cofusion of the pure elements under controlled atmosphere in high frequency induction furnace, by arc-melting or mechanical alloying. The hydrides of those compounds are synthesized by solid-gas reaction in volumetric devices (Sievert's method). They allow to measure the thermodynamic properties of the hydrides. They can also be synthesized by electrochemical reaction following the reaction used in nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) batteries. The crystal structure of the intermetallic compounds and of their hydrides are characterized by X-ray and neutron diffraction. Their physical properties are studied by magnetic measurements, Mössbauer spectroscopy, X-ray absorption spectroscopy...

Uit deze twee teksten denk ik te kunnen opmaken dat het gaat om de versmelting of samensmelting van giet- en smeedijzer. Zowel in het Engels als het Frans heeft men het over 'cofusion', maar een bron waar men effectief een vertaling geeft voor dat woord heb ik niet kunnen vinden.
