Tech/Engineering - Engineering (general) / Explanation of a technical term
English term or phrase: sample parking stage
What I care most about is giving me a few synonyms that will allow me to better understand the word - "stage" - in the context of the whole phrase and the issue in general.
I would ask for a brief description from you of the purpose of the element named "stage",

Short description:
The Sample Parking Stage for flag style sample plates is commonly used in surface analysis instrumentation. With that in mind, it’s been specifically designed to accommodate Omicron, Specs and Aarhus Flag style sample plates. Its intended use is the storage of multiple samples in the UHV analysis chamber or the sample preparation chamber. The Sample Parking Stage is comprised of a carousel plate or multiple carousels (each of which can accommodate 4 flag style sample plates).

platform or fixture

Explanation:
The "stage" in a sample parking stage is the platform or fixture that holds the sample plates. It is designed to allow multiple sample plates to be stored in a single location, which can be helpful for surface analysis instrumentation.

agree  philgoddard: I think "fixture" is a bit vague, but "platform" is a good synonym.

neutral  Daryo: Sure is "a fixture", but your "explanation" does not explain why it's called a "stage".

sample parking stage
it's the physical location for a "stage" in processing samples

Explanation:
Here I would understand "stage" as the physical location where a step in the processus of analysing the sample is performed - specifically the stage(/step in the processus) that consist in "parking the samples waiting to be analysed"

You could make a parallel with the concept of "staging area" see

Available facilities are a gas line with precision leak valves, e-beam evaporators (Focus - Omicron GmbH), a quadrupole mass spectrometer, a magnetization stage, and a sample parking stage.
