I am translating a recommendation letter and in the final paragraph the teacher mentions the student's final year research project:

"[she] explored the potential of the application of a *portable multispectral imaging device in the UV* for detecting varnishes of different kinds and provide more resolved images of paintings during cleaning using different reagents than the broad band UV imaging we currently use."

I'm not sure what the correct translation of the device would be and I would really appreciate your help.
