"Holivud je pošao u osvajanje Evrope svojim zvučnim filmovima 1930. godine. Isprobane su verzije sa titlovima, naracijom i grubom naknadnom sinhronizacijom koja je bila teško ostvarljiva zbog tehnoloških ograničenja, ali ta sredstva nisu ostavljala mnogo od doživljaja pravog sinhronog zvuka."

Postoje dva tipa nahsinhronizacije: lip–sync, gde se vodi računa o tome da mesto slogova u prevodu bude identično mestu slogova u originalu kako bi izgledalo da glumci na slici govore jezikom na koji je delo prevedeno i voice–over gde se prevod izgovara na mestu na kome se govori u originalu bez namere da se postigne rečeni utisak. Postoji i takozvani poljski dabing gde jedan glumac čita prevod svih dijaloga u delu."
