Infection after an LP is very rare, but serious, and would be treated with antibiotics. Post-LP headaches can be mild to severe and will be managed with analgesics as needed. Nausea, dizziness, and ringing in the ears may accompany the headache. If the headache is prolonged, a blood patch may be performed. This procedure involves taking blood from the participant and injecting it in the same place where the spinal needle was put in during the LP. The clotting of the blood in this space should stop further fluid leaking and stop the headache.
