The marked reduction in neointima hyperplasia shown in preclinical studies seems to be well associated to a similarly relevant clinical improvement. Overall, the clinical data demonstrate compelling evidence that DEB technology safely and successfully inhibits restenosis; the benefit of this novel therapy is particularly awaited as an alternative to stenting in the femoro-popliteal tract characterized by high atherosclerotic lesion and restenosis rates and stressful mechanical conditions.
