The triangulation process takes place on the diffused part of the reflected beam as the directly reflected part of the irradiated laser light obeys the rule: angle of incidence equals the angle of reflection, and therefore does not show up on the detector. Therefore, reflective objects cannot be measured using laser triangulation.
If the laser beam is stretched into a line using a lens system and a surface camera is used instead of a linear camera, the coordinates of all the points of the measured object lying on the plane generated by the laser line can be determined. This process is known as the *LASER STRIPE PROCESS*.
In order to determine the complete outline of the measured object, several laser stripe sensors are used that are set up around the measured object.
