"Testing animals were born without need of veterinary birth aid. Litter size was on average 14.8 live born piglets. Piglets had access to a heating lamp under which temperature was constantly 30 - 32°C. At the day of birth, piglets received an ear mark with an identification number, and were weighed. At the third day of life, they received an intramuscular injection of 1 ml Iron-ject 20%+B12 (Dopharma, Raamsdonksveer, The Netherlands) behind the ear and were weighed. Piglets had access to two drinking nipples, apart from the drinking nipple from the sow."
