Non-PRO English to Italian Art/Literary Cinema, Film, TV, Drama Teatro
Commedia teatrale canadese. Un uomo chiede a una spogliarellista perchè fa questo lavoro.

A: Why are you doing this kind of work?
B: The money. But , it's just temporary. I'm just waiting for a position to open up in my chosen field.

La mia proposta:

A: Perchè fai questo lavoro?
B: I soldi. Ma è solo temporaneo. Sto solo aspettando che si apra una posizione nel mio campo.

Grazie a tutti per i vostri interventi. Non c'è nessun doppio senso. La ragazza è alla sua prima (impacciatissima) esperienza con un cliente e il suo vero lavoro è la parrucchiera.

It is not banal. She is ashamed of doing a humble job and she pretends she can do better than that. The wit lies in that she is lying about herself, she probably has no other better perspective. It would be just as funny if the phrase were pronounced by a cleaner.

CHOSEN FIELD It all boils down to how witty the Canadian author is. Though I do understand Cynthia's take, if the girl's answer is that simple, it would be pretty banal. Should anybody (other than Danilo) know the story, tell us what her chosen line of work would be !

Non vedo nessun doppio senso E' solo una scusa che sta adducendo per non ammettere che fa e sempre farà la spogliarellista. In un certo senso, un po' si vergogna di quello che fa, vuole fare capire che merita di meglio perché ne ha le capacità.

neutral Tony Shargool : Mi pare improbabile che in un testo teatrale sofisticato e comico, un personaggio / una stripper, possa rispondere in modo tanto 'square'. Indi il mio sospetto che 'position' richiami il 'Kamasutra'. WITH NO 2nd MEANING, IT WOULD BE ATROCIOUSLY BORING.

'Position' potrebbe essere un 'pun' sul Kamasutra. Se fosse, 'posizione' va conservata. ... tipo.
