Engels term

wrap

Homework / test Engels naar Nederlands Juridisch / patenten Juridisch (algemeen)
A police interview which forms part of the preparatory papers for the Metropolitan Police Exam contains the following ;

'We found in your jacket a wrap of what we suspect is cocaine'

The best I can think of is:

'We hebben in uw jas een kleine hoeveelheid poeder gevonden, wat wij ervan verdenken cocaine te zijn.'

What do you think?

There are a fair few terms which I would love to hear suggestions for. Or can anyone point me towards a resource they think might be particularly useful for this exam? Anywhere to find witness statements and such in Dutch? If not, I'll put a list up, and anyone with the time and inclination can enter their suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Also, if anyone is thinking of taking the exam as well, I would be delighted to have a study partner.

pakje

www.mijnwoordenboek.nl weet onder de afdeling "Mens, Cultuur en Religie" het volgende de melden:

EN: wrap, bag
NL: pakje

Definitie: (Engels) Packet of drugs containing a small amount of heroin bought or sold, enough for between one or three "hits"
Definitie: (Nederlands) Een standaarddosis heroïne("een pakje van een geeltje")

should be: "... het volgende Te melden:"

Your example is about cocaine. When cocaine is distributed in lumps rather than powder in a wrap/bag/packet mij answer is perhaps not so appropriate as I thought.

And a further explanation, in the case you are not familiar with the expression "een geeltje": this is the 25 guilder banknote that was worth about EUR 10 in pre-2000 Holland.

"We hebben een pakje in uw jas gevonden, waarvan we denken dat het cocaine is." could work in this particular situation.

Do not say: "wat we ervan verdenken", because verdenken usually refers to a person rather than a thing/object. As in "We verdenken u ervan cocaine in bezit te hebben".

Well, pakje could refer to many things. Just as well to 2 grams with a piece of paper folded around it, so don't worry about postal connotations.

Thanks,
Note from asker:
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer. Very much appreciated. One concern would be that for me 'pakje' conjures up the image of a postal package full of cocaine whilst a wrap would never be more than a gram or two. Or is 'pakje' a standard expression for this small quantity? And thanks for the 'verdenken' note. And the 'bevatten' note. Thanks for all the help!

verpakking

'een verpakking cocaine' is a term frequently used in newspaper articles, probably derived from the verb to wrap = inpakken.
