Non-PRO Chinese to English Art/Literary
This was a direct quote from one of the old poetry or essay. I don't know if "a long day's journey into night" fits.

The night is long and endless, and the journey is afar and never-ending

I think you have to give some thoughts to the reduplicative words, which are common in Chinese poems and essays for emphasizing. A better word to translate 隔 is journey rather than road.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "First, I'd like to thank both of them for their instant response. Also, I found both of their explanation being clear and to the point. I chose Mr.Chu's translation for his way of rendering the work in a more poetic way. I will visit this site on a regular basis from now on and share my two-cent idea if I could. hope I could offer my two-cent idea sometimes."

The night is long and the road ahead is long.

The LITERAL translation should be " The night is long and the road ahead is long." It seems someone is travelling throughout the ("long") night to hurry a journey and the road seems to last forever. If more context is provided, a better translation can be done.
